The Premier 18-Asics team will have some modifications from the other age groups. The 18-Asics team will travel to an additional tournament with the National teams; see below in question #5. For this level we are looking for athletes that are: Wanting to train at the highest level possible for your age group, but not travel as extensively as the National level Looking to have a competitive tournament schedule that concludes at the end of May Ready to start practice in early January and end before their last event in May Wanting to attend three or four 2-day or 3-day events during the season, the rest will be 1-day tournaments Would like to be on a team with a maximum of 10 players Willing to work hard for their teammates and themselves All team fees, team tournament/practice schedules and team coaches will be announced at Meet the Club Night on Saturday, October 19th from 7-8 pm at Premier Academy.Quick Facts: Practices for U12s and U13s Asics teams: Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 – 6 pm at Premier Academy Practices for U14s, 15s, 16s, 17s, 18s Asics teams: Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 – 9:30 pm at Premier Academy Tournaments: 3 or 4 multiple-day events within a 2-5 hours of Maumee; the rest are single-day events within 2.5 hours of Maumee Season length: early January through May Commonly asked questions about the Asics Level: 1) What is the Premier attendance/commitment policy at the Asics level? Improving your skills as a player and helping your team requires you to be at practice and tournaments! How hard is it to practice when only 3-4 players on your team show up? Very hard! What if only 5 players show up to a tournament? You can’t play. At Premier, we have never had that problem. We have a 6 missed practice policy and an up-to-ONE missed tournament policy. A player that misses a tournament must have notified Jodi Schramm in writing by January 1st of 2009. Any player can miss up to 6 practices for any reason. The key is to plan ahead. If you are going on Spring Break, those missed practices count. If you are sick, those missed practices count. If you have a choir concert or school event, those count as missed practices. We treat everyone the same, when you miss your 7th practice, you are excused from the team and program. 2) Can players play other sports or be involved in other activities? The answer to this question is simple! Yes, they can be involved in any other sport or activity. They can not miss a tournament for any reason, so get those activity schedules early and compare them to the tournament schedule that you receive at Meet the Club Night. Because a multi-sport athlete will miss practice on occasion, we adapted the 6 missed practice rule. The following scale only applies to players that play club volleyball and another school sport (basketball, etc): If you miss 6 or more practices due to your other sport, you will only have zero additional practice days that you are allowed to miss for another reason. 5 missed practices b/c of other sport = 1 additional allowed 4 missed practices b/c of other sport = 2 additional allowed 3 missed practices b/c of other sport = 3 additional allowed 2 missed practices b/c of other sport = 4 additional allowed 1 missed practices b/c of other sport = 5 additional allowed 3) Can players go on spring break? Yes, as long as you meet the attendance policy in question 1. 4) How far do these teams travel? Asics teams travel regionally in the regular season (Jan-May). This means that teams will not fly to any events, but one or two tournaments (these will be your two or three-day tournaments) could be up to a 3-5 hour drive from Maumee. The majority of tournaments will be single-day and within 2.5 hours of Maumee. All teams tournament schedules will be announced at Meet the Club Night on Saturday, October 19th at Premier Academy. 5) How does the 18-Asics team differ from other age Asics teams? The 18-Asics team is traditionally a very competitive team of athletes who are either committed to play in college or are still pursuing that goal. With that in mind, we try to schedule them at events that will increase their recruiting possibilities and put them in more competitive tournaments. They will attend AAU Nationals in Orlando, Florida with the National teams. This will be there last event and will take place in mid-June. 6) Where are practices? All practices are at Premier Academy 7) When do travel schedules come out? Schedules will come out at Meet the Club Night on Saturday, October 19th from 7-8 pm for Asics teams 8) When does practice start? Practice for all Asics teams begins in early January, specifics at Meet the Club Night 9) How many days per week do Asics Teams practice? Twice a week at Premier Academy, days and times depend on their age, see Quick Facts 10) Does everyone receive playing time? Playing time will be based on practice performance and skill-set at the Asics level. Everyone on an Asics team should be playing at least 50% during each tournament. We have an attendance policy for the Asics level, so issues of players not attending practice and playing in tournaments should not happen. We take attendance and will discuss any missed practice issues with the team coach and player. 11) How long does the season last? From early January until the end of May, specifics at Meet the Club Night
